Here We Go Again

So we’re a few weeks into 2014, about the time when we’re saying things like “can you believe it’s February already??” and “the year is just flying by!”  With the first month of the year coming to a close, now would be a good time for a quick assessment of our New Year’s resolutions.  Mine was to pay more attention to my blog, which has gone as well as you’d expect a New Year’s resolution to go.  A blog is a lot like a baby; having one is exciting at first, but the novelty quickly wears off once you realize you actually have to take care of it.  Of course, nobody gives a shit if you neglect a blog unless it’s really awesome and has a loyal following, so I’m good.

The main reason I’ve been so neglectful, other than the whole “blogs are work” thing, is that I’ve been putting all of my energy into writing projects for different websites, links to which I have posted on this very site (go ahead and check them out if you haven’t already, I’ll wait).

Done yet?  Did you read them all?  You sure?  Go back and check.  My posts are not that long, and if you’re reading this you clearly have nothing better to do, so help me out here, okay?  Okay.

The other reason I haven’t been blogging much is because I put too much pressure on myself to make every blog entry a masterpiece, a feeling that probably trips up a lot of new bloggers.  There is a lot of competition out there, after all.  Then again there’s also a lot of competition on cable TV, yet hundreds of shows are seen by millions of people every day.  Considering that most of those shows are crap, it’s safe to say that I can totally half-ass this blog and still find an audience as long as I do it on a weekly basis.  That’s all the encouragement I need.

So whether you’re a retuning reader or just stumbling across my little corner of the net for the first time, I hereby renew my resolution to offer up a steady diet of blog postings not unlike Chinese takeout: Questionable taste and quality, yet cheap and readily available at any time.  Let’s hear it for mediocrity!
